What words not to over-use (or a lesson from Dead Poets Society)

I am reminded of this quote from Dead Poets Society all the time and have to edit my writing accordingly.

Also, there’s the word “issue.” The most memorable feedback I’ve received on a story I’ve written was from an old journalism professor telling me not to over-use the word. “Issue” (when describing “an important subject or topic”) is often the lazy term we use to be vague or avoid explaining the actual subject or context to our readers.
